Echo Creative Club May 2013 Reveal!

I am so excited to be participating in the Echo Creative Club for 2013!

A big thank you to Jeannie Dukic for this opportunity. She sent me the most lovely selection of beads to work with. The bead that I am using for my May entry is this lovely chocolate brown round bead:

I really had fun creating this necklace! It pairs Jeannie's beautiful bead with caramel fossil beads, silver bead caps and chain, dark blue lapis tube beads and rounds, and lamp work glass saucers. As you can see from the photos, one side of Jeannie's bead has a leaf design, and the other has a slash and squiggle design.  Both are pretty, and it adds versatility to the necklace. I made a few attempts at matching earrings, but was not satisfied with my designs.  Back to the drawing board on those!  I'll post those later.

I can't wait to see what lovely creations the other participants** have made! Please take a look, and also stop by Jeannie's store Jewelry by Jeannie and check out her awesome selection of beads and jewelry.

ZNET SHOWS Diamonds in the Rough Stone Challenge

Bill Zhang of ZnetShows (Wholesale Beads) asked me to be one of the designers for their "Diamonds in the Rough" Jewelry Challenge, and I was thrilled to say yes!  Each designer got to pick some beads that caught their eye from a list of items that do not get much exposure on ZnetShows website.

As with their other challenges, there is a Facebook voting contest.  Only this time, there is a twist! Instead of the judging being entirely done by the ZnetShows staff, the voting is open to everyone!  Voters will pick from a list of 20 designs pre-selected by ZnetShows.  There are some nifty prizes:

Top Prize: $100 Gift certificate to ZnetShows
Second Prize: $75 Gift Certificate to ZnetShows
Third Prize: $50 Gift Certificate to ZnetShows

The winning design will be the one that best showcases the ZnetShows beads.
Now, on to the designs!!  I selected a mixture of orange and blue beads, including fire agate drum/barrels, red aventurine faceted teardrops and puffed rectangles, sky blue glass quartz rondelles, and carnelian free form flat beads/pendants.  I was so excited to get started creating that I forgot to take a picture right away, so this picture only has a portion of the beads.

With the end goal in mind of creating designs to showcase (not overpower or obscure) the beautiful ZnetShows beads, I wanted to start with a simple and classic design.  This would allow me to get a feel for how the blue and orange beads would look together.  I call this bracelet and earring set: "Serenity".

Item#s  SCBDG43, SCBDS342 and SCBDS364

I love dragonflies, and had been saving this awesome antique brass clasp for something special. The agate drum/barrels and carnelian cube beads really are set off well against the deep green of the handmade clay round and dragonfly bead by Shaterra.

Item#s SCBDG142 and BDS1592-08

This chunky large free form carnelian pendant bead was begging to be the "star of the show", so I needed to come up with a design to make it the visual centerpiece.  The pewter celtic beads and toggle clasp add textual interest. One again I used the agate drum/barrels (they are becoming a favorite)!

Item#s BDS1592-08 and SCBDG98

Sometimes as a designer, you just feel like you are "in the zone".  That's how I felt while creating this necklace and earring set.  Nothing stands in the way of the beautiful ZnetShows beads from proclaiming their beauty.  Check out the pretty red adventurine rectangle puffed beads!

Item#s BDS1592, SCBDG43, and SCBDS364

Hope your enjoyed seeing my creations!  Thanks again to Bill for this great opportunity!  Be sure have a look at all of the 20 designers creations using the links below.  View and vote on the contest design selections on the ZnetShows facebook page.  Why not head over to ZnetShows (wholesale beads) store and see all of their lovely beads! You will want to buy a bunch!
