Artisan Whimsy Owl Challenge

There is a challenge going on over at Artisan Whimsy - the new gathering/sharing blog for jewelry and bead artists!  Create a piece of handmade artisan jewelry or an art bead featuring owls!

Many of my customers enjoy wearing jewelry to work that is simple and classic.  With that in mind, I created a pair of owl earrings using some beautiful silver plated owls, and teardrop malachite gems that I received in a bead exchange from the lovely and talented Rita at Toltec Jewels for Jewel School Friends. I added small Swarovski crystal bicones for a hint of sparkle.  Head over to Artisan Whimsy on October 31st to see the contest entries and vote for your favorites.  While you are there, how about joining?  It is free and it is fun.  Here is the website: http://www.artisanwhimsy.ning.com

My Bead Table Blog Hop - Reveal Day and Giveaway!

Recently I needed to clean up the pile of leftover beads on my bead table.  You know the ones - extra beads from projects that are complete, beads that somehow did not match the color or style you wanted, pretty beads that just don't "speak to you" (if you know what I mean). What to do?  I know - a blog hop! I thought it would be fun to have participants take these beads and combine them with beads on their tables to create something new!  Several talented and brave ladies took on this challenge. A couple people started a blog just for this occasion!

Of course, I got so busy making and sending the kits, that I forgot to photograph them!  Luckily, many of the participants did take pictures, and you will see them on their blogs.

I got into the spirit by taking some beads from my bead table and making a pair of earrings.  I had made something similar months ago and took it apart because I did not like the style of chain, and how the beads hung on the chain. So - here is the new and improved version of my "beehive" earrings.  The unakite beads are ribbed and shaped like cute beehives, hence the name:

Before we get to the list of talented ladies who participated, let's talk about a GIVEAWAY!  I will be giving away my beehive earrings to one lucky winner. Just leave a comment below (before midnight EST on October 20th, 2012 - one entry per person) and tell me:  What is your favorite piece of jewelry that you have ever made (or purchased), and why. I will pick a winner by randomizer on October 21st, 2012. Make sure to leave me some way to contact you! (Now for some necessary legal stuff - this giveaway/sweepstakes is open to US and Canada residents only.  There is no purchase necessary to win).

Now, on to the fabulous jewelry!

I Have a New Blog - Now What?

First I want to thank everybody from my Pine Ridge Treasures Blog, the Creative Bead Chat Group, and the Bead Soup Group on Facebook for joining my new blog. I really appreciate the fact that you want to be a part of this "blogging journey".

So, why the new blog?  A couple of reasons:

1). I had a big scare last week when I logged into Blogger and my entire Pine Ridge Treasures blog had vanished from the face of the earth. No reason - just gone!  For over 24 hours I had to live with the fact that I had not backed up my blog, and that everything I had done may be gone forever. Over 150 posts and 150 followers! Me - the person who tells other people all the time to back things up, had not backed up my own blog.  I guess it is one of those "Doctors make the worst patients" kind of scenarios. While I was pondering the annileation of my blog, it occurred to me that I had not been happy with the blog for a long time. It just did not "feel" right.  I am a very intuitive person, and things have to "feel" right to me or I get uncomfortable. I started the blog as a quasi marketing tool - to promote my fledgling jewelry business, and to participate in blog hops.  Mission accomplished, but I want more. (See reason #2 below). Anyway, the universe smiled upon me - a day later the blog reappeared with no explanation given to my inquiry. I decided to plunge ahead regardless.

Getting my "ducks in a row".

2). I would like this new blog to be a place where I can share my "jewelry journey". I am relatively new to jewelry making, and am learning new things all the time. I am trying to find my "style" or niche. I'd like to share other interests as well, like crocheting. I want to provide interesting topics for you, my blog followers.  I will be trying out some new things to see what "sticks". Mostly I want this to be lighthearted and fun.  Life has enough struggles without adding more weight to it.

Here's my question for you:

Think of your favorite blog (or blogs). What do you like best about them? What keeps you reading them regularly?  I look forward to your comments, and to sharing this journey with you.
