December Echo Creative Club Reveal

First of all:  A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  Thanks for taking time to stop by my blog and have a look at my very first entry in the Echo Creative Club!

A big thank you to Jeannie Dukic (Jewelry by Jeannie) for this opportunity.  Here is a quick recap:

Jeannie sent me the most lovely beads to work with. The 18mm size was larger than I had previously used in my jewelry designs.  I had been wanting to use larger beads, so this was a perfect opportunity!  Below you will see a picture of the beads in their packaging and out "in the open" for their close up.

When I saw the beads, the first thing that came to mind was to pair them with freshwater ivory pearls. Then I remembered that I had some gorgeous oval ocean jasper stones.  Would the combination look well together?  I layed out the beads, and liked the look, but it needed a little "pizazz".  That's when I went really "out of the box" (for me).  Lime green peeled paint beads!! Somehow they just spoke to me.  I created a choker with copper chain and a handmade copper "s" clasp.

With the chocker completed, I wanted to make some matching dangle earrings.  I love kidney earwires, and the lime green really made them "pop".  Here are the earrings:

Please check out the beautiful creations made by the other club members!

Floral Holiday Blog Hop Reveal

Today is the big day!  The reveal of the Floral Holiday Blog Hop.  The talented participants were sent a bead packet containing brightly colored lucite petals, leaves, flowers, and other beads. Their challenge was to create something holiday themed  (not necessarily jewelry) for whatever holiday(s) they celebrate in December. An example of one bead packet is shown here:

I did not make a piece of jewelry this time.  I was so excited about the hop, I forgot to save a kit for myself!  A big thank you to all of the participants - I am excited to see what they made, how about you! Please visit their blogs listed below.  Happy Holidays everyone!

Echo Creative Club December 2012 Beads

I am so excited to be participating in the Echo Creative Club for December 2012!

This is my first time participating.  A big thank you to Jeannie Dukic for this opportunity.  She sent me the most lovely beads to work with. The 18mm size is larger than I typically use in my designs.  I have been wanting to use larger beads, so this is a perfect opportunity!  Below you will see a picture of the beads in their packaging (Jeannie has such pretty packaging), and out "in the open" for their close up.  The ideas for a design are already forming!

Be sure to stop back on Christmas Day for the reveal (or after that if your schedule does not permit). There will be several artists participating, and I can't wait to see what lovely creations they make! While you wait, why not stop by Jeannie's store and check out her awesome selection of beads and jewelry.  You just might find the perfect Christmas gift for someone on your holiday list.

Boysenberry Pie! The Berries and Leaves Challenge

There is a challenge going on over at Artisan Whimsy - the new gathering/sharing blog for jewelry and bead artists! Create a piece of handmade artisan jewelry or an art bead featuring berries and leaves!

My favorite pie growing up was boysenberry. Boysenberries are large and somewhat tart. They taste great with just a little added sugar and also make wonderful jam. My grandmother was an excellent cook, and just smelling her pies was heavenly.  With delicious boysenberries in mind, I created a pair of berry and leaves earrings using some beautiful round amethyst beads (the boysenberries) that I received in a bead exchange from the lovely and talented Rita at Toltec Jewels for Jewel School Friends. I added frosted Czech glass leaves, and small Swarovski crystal bicones for a hint of sparkle. The kidney shaped earwires were made by yours truly (my first attempt)!  They are a little crooked, but not too bad.   Head over to Artisan Whimsy on November 30th to see the contest entries! While you are there, how about joining? It is free and it is fun. Here is the website: http://www.artisanwhimsy.ning.com
